  • Victims No More – 2/18/19

This Sunday we will examine a teaching of Jesus from what has been called his Sermon on the Plain.   Many of us have been through events in our lives which have left us feeling hurt, rejected, and alone.  In these words of Jesus, we find guidance about how to move on, how to address the things which have happened to us, ways to move past those events which have left us feeling victimized.  Join us for worship at 10:00 and our social hour at 9:00.

  • Everything Changes – 2/11/19

This Sunday, we finish our sermon series “Ready for a Change.”  For our final week, we will explore the inevitability of change.  Even though we often wish it otherwise, change is an unavoidable part of our lives.  We will examine a prominent story from the change making ministry of Jesus – changing water into wine.  And we will find that even though everything may change around us, there is one thing which will remain constant.

  • Resistance – 2/4/19

Just two more weeks in our “Ready for a Change” sermon series.  This Sunday we consider our tendency to resist change when it is presented. We will look at how people responded when Jesus healed a blind man. Rather than praising God for a miracle, resistance to change led Jewish leaders to condemn the action.  In the same way, we have a tendency to push back when God presents us with an opportunity for growth.  Join us Sunday for worship at 10:00 as we explore ways to overcome this resistance.  And don’t forget our social hour at 9:00.

  • Choices – 1/28/19

This Sunday, we continue our new series “Ready for a Change.”  This week we examine the difficulty in making choices.  We will consider a parable of Jesus about accepting the invitations God extends to us.  And we will see the importance of discernment among the many choices which seek our attention if we truly want a closer walk with God.  Hope to see you Sunday!

  • Courage – 1/21/19

This Sunday, we continue our series “Ready for a Change.” From a pivotal story in the life of Peter, we will consider the need for courage to make a change. It takes courage to start something new, to change the path we find ourselves on, to venture forward on a new journey. We like to continue to do the things we have succeeded at in the past, those things which don’t give rise to butterflies in our stomachs. But if we are not able to muster the courage to move out of that safe place, we may never be ready for a change. Join us for our social hour at 9:00 and our worship service at 10:00.

  • Ready for a Change – 1/7/19

This Sunday, we begin a new series of sermons entitled “Ready for a Change.” The new year presents an opportunity for each of us to become more the person we want to be.  And, more importantly, to become the person God is calling us to be.  But in order to move into that new place, we need to be ready for change.  This Sunday, we will examine the story of the woman suspected of adultery brought before Jesus.  And we will see how our lowest point can be the best moment to begin this process of change.  Also, our social hour begins again this Sunday.  Hope to see you all then!

  • Claiming Love – 12/17/18

This Sunday, we conclude our Advent series by exploring the theme of Love. We will look at some of the final words in the book of Isaiah and find that with the unending love of God we can experience a world transformed. This Sunday is also our choir’s Christmas cantata during the worship service. And don’t forget our Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. This year’s service is being led by some of the young people in our congregation. I hope you will join us for this memorable candlelight service.

  • Joy – 12/10/18

We continue our Advent series this week with the theme of joy. We will look again at the prophecies of Isaiah and read of the joy that will be experienced with the reign of a coming king. Isaiah assures the people of Judah who have suffered and placed their trust in God that things will change. That the joy they once felt will return, for “there will be no gloom for those who were in anguish.” And we will examine how with the coming of Christ we can experience that same joy.

  • Peace – 12/3/18

This Sunday we continue our Advent series by examining the theme of peace.  Again, we will turn to prophecies of a coming king in the book of Isaiah. There we find a powerful metaphor for God’s care and providence.  And through this metaphor we understand the reason we are able to find peace in God regardless of our circumstances – a peace which is remembered with the ornaments each family is invited to take home.  We hope to see you on Sunday for worship at 10:00.

  • Advent – 11/26/18

This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. This year during Advent we will be exploring more deeply the meaning behind the Advent candles we light – the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love. Using familiar passages from the book of Isaiah, we will see what it means to claim each of these things with the coming of Christ. Each Sunday, every household will also be invited to take an ornament representing hope, joy, peace, and love home with them. My hope is that by taking these home, the ornaments will serve as a reminder of the hope, joy, peace, and love we experience in God both this year and in years to come. I hope you will join us for each Sunday of this Advent season.
